More About This Project

Background: The Smith-Douglas-More House is one of the few historic structures remaining in Eden Prairie. Built in 1877, the farmhouse served as a home for the Smith and Douglas families, who also welcomed borders from the nearby railroad station. In the 1950s, electricity was added to the home by its occupants.

Project: MacDonald & Mack led a project to convert the former farmhouse into a coffee shop, including a historically-sensitive addition and full modern amenities. This was a major undertaking: as part of this transition, the house needed structural stabilization; electrical, HVAC, fire suppression and security system upgrades; selected exterior repairs; the resolution of site drainage issues; and top-to-bottom interior renovation work.

Result: Once a forgotten part of the landscape, this house is how a landmark in Eden Prairie, a showcase of the city’s past and an essential gathering ground for its current residents.
